N=1 The Case for Grounded Theory Research in Innovation
The phenomenon of N=1 in innovation as explained by professors C.K. Prahalad and M.S. Krishnan in their book: The New Age of Innovation – Driving Co-created Value Through Global Networks is studied to find implications of the phenomenon of innovation research.18 The standard N=1 requires companies to tailor their products on individual customer experiences through flexible business processes in order to engage in product co-creation. This article explains how grounded theory research has the potential to bring out the theories of innovation in a rapidly changing innovation environment where N is becoming as small as 1.

Recent Innovation Discussions
TRIZ and ROI
"I used to be the TRIZ champion at the last company I worked for, a semiconductor fab. We were able to create a culture of using TRIZ in our design and problem solving thinking. It was so successful that I was fortunate enough to be the full time TRIZ expert the last two years I was there.
"Speaking from experience, any attempts to promote the use of TRIZ within a company has to start from the ground up by demonstrating a positive ROI (Return On Investment). Most of us including myself see the tremendous value of TRIZ to create new solutions and designs in ways we would not have normally have been aware of. However, a company is in existence to make money. To successfully implement TRIZ in a company's culture you have to show the value of using TRIZ in terms of ROI. Carefully managing and communicating the cost savings in terms of ROI to management from the very first TRIZ project is crucial."

IFR Versus Value Analysis
"Ellen Domb has advised to start with IFR and refers to an article by Vladimir Petrov and her own article. To my ashtonishment the said articles are not at all describing IFR but the concept of value as defined by L.D. Miles in Techniques of Value Analysis / Value Engineering. What is the difference between value and ideality?
"Petrov and Domb are referring to some kind of optimal product rather than an ideal one or perhaps their intention was to describe the concept of product differentiation?"

IFR and Mathematics
"To form even a simple mathematical expression with non-quantitative, hetrogeneous and subjective factors would ring alarm bells anywhere. Before discussing if the result of such an expression would be quantitative, qualitative or neither, one must ponder if any processing of such an expression is possible in the first place. Logically what would constitute the next step?"

Commentary Focus: Making Copies II
How many of you are old enough to remember some of the original cast episodes of Saturday Night Live? There have been several famous ones including the mimicking of Julia Child's cooking show and bleeding all over the food she was cutting as well as hundreds of spoofs of politicians from every party and political spectrum. One of my favorites was the one where one of the actors (Rob Schneider) went into an office area and asked someone at the copy machine what they were doing and the famous reply came back (sorry I can't imitate the accent, etc.) that he was "making copies."
